NEEMF workshops are open to everyone - you don't have to be a member. Come along and try one. Choose one that suits you - some are for singers, some for singers and players, some just for players. The organiser will be happy to answer any questions.

4th DECEMBER
Village Carol Traditions, with Dr Julia Bishop
10 for 10.30 to 4.30, Christ Church, Dore, Sheffield S17
3GY
For singers and players of both period and modern
instruments (A440) . At Dore Parish Church, Sheffield S17
3GY; 10 for 10.30 - 4.30.
Dr Bishop's 2008 workshop was so enjoyable that we've asked
for a return - same time, same place. We welcome singers,
who should be prepared for the robust traditional style,
and players of period AND MODERN strings, brass, woodwind
(including recorders, dulcians) and C19 instruments such as
concertina and serpent. Pitch 440. If you need transposed
parts, please indicate when booking.
If you missed it last time ... The 'village' carols were
composed by artisan musicians of 18th and 19th centuries,
and have survived in South Yorkshire and a few other areas.
They are very different from mainstream carols and
mainstream performance practice. The instrumental parts
include some striking 'symphonies' or introductions and
interludes between the carol verses. Julia Bishop is not
only extremely knowledgeable about the carols, but also a
great workshop leader. Tremendous fun!
