"The Excellent Adrian Willaert"

Celebrating the anniversaries of the death of Adrian Willaert (450 years), Hans Leo Hassler (400 years) and Giovanni Gabrieli (400 years).
A workshop for singers and players, and a rare opportunity to experience the sensuous Missa Osculetur Me by Willaert, and the serene Missa Octo Vocum by Hassler, along with motets by Hassler, Willaert and Gabrieli. If we have enough wind and string players (including brass!) we shall include ricercars and canzoni by Hassler and Gabrieli. Pitch will be A=440. The workshop will be led by Graham Coatman.

Love Knows No Rules: Songs of the Trouvères and Troubadors with Sara Stowe
Kirkstall Room, Weetwood Hall, Leeds University, Otley Road, Leeds, LS16 5PS (fully accessible)
NEEMF, in collaboration with the International Medieval Congress, welcome Sara Stowe to direct this voice workshop on the beautiful folk-like songs of the northern Trouvères and those of the southern Troubadors on the Langue d'Oc. Sara will explore the different types of trouvères songs written in the 12th-13th centuries, which include Chansons d'histoire (love songs), Chansons de Geste (songs of heroic deeds), Pastourelles (songs of rustic encounters) and Chansons de Toile (sewing songs). Composers featured include Gace Brule, Blondel de Nesle and Martin Codax.
